This ancient stone-carved food bowl is from the Lumi Area of the West Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea. The deep oval form with high relief diamond design on the bottom and medial ridge going from end to end. The lugs on the side of the bowl are for hanging it up in the house when not in use. Definitely dating from the 19th Century.
